Family Dinner
Hello Friends. How are you today? I want to share with you that God answered a prayer for us. We have been praying that our adult children would come to our home once a month for family dinner. My husband and I began praying for this last May of 2025. Well, September our son and his wife came for our first gathering! We are so thankful! We praise the Lord for this.
It was a simple pizza dinner, but it meant so much to us that they wanted to spend time with us to talk and to eat. This first dinner together was a little bit awkward, in that we did not feel at ease with each other and we had some silent times. The time went by quickly and they left earlier than we would have liked, but praise God for His goodness to answer our prayer for family dinner.
Our second family dinner was one month later October of 2025. We had a simple ham dinner with mashed potatoes, gravy and salad. I did not make a dessert because my mother rarely made desserts, so I am out of the habit of making them. I am determined to start a new tradition and make a cake or pie or anything tasty for a dessert for future family dinners, especially since my daughter-in-law enjoys them. We looked at old photo albums and had a peaceful time together. God is so good.
Our third family dinner was again with only our eldest son and his wife, as two of our other children live out of state. We also have a daughter and her husband whom we are estranged from. We are praying daily for reconciliation. Please pray for us. We love them and we want them in our lives. We are so thankful we had this third family dinner for Thanksgiving. This was a relaxed and enjoyable time. I made an apple pie! Everyone loved it. I am so thankful for our family.
We were also able to drive to our daughter's home and had family dinner with them and their daughter. What a loving Heavenly Father we have, to bless us with family dinner for the fourth time. We got two in November!
We had another lovely ham dinner for Christmas! I made chocolate brownies for dessert! Everyone loved them. We were so happy to have our son and his wife here for Christmas. We exchanged gifts and they stayed all day with us. We are getting to know each other and trust is developing. Only the Lord could do this for us. He is answering the prayers we pray.
I am using my vintage Jeannette Glass. I like the golden rim on these dishes. I especially love the Wedding Box by Jeannette Glass. I put foil wrapped hazel nut candies inside mine. These dishes make the table so festive.
We also had cheesy potatoes!
I am getting mixed up. The cheesy potatoes were for New Year's Eve family dinner! We actually had two wonderful dinners with our son and his wife in December of 2025.
Here is one more photo of my Jeannette Glass with a luscious fruit salad within its golden rim.
For New Year's Eve we had many hors d'oeuvres and I used my lovely Jeannette Glass Harp Tray. I like to think of it as my King David's Harp Tray. We were so very thankful that my son and his wife stayed until way past dark to celebrate with fire works. We are enjoying being with them so very much. Praise God for His goodness!
I forgot to take a picture of the homemade lemon cake that I made for dessert. Everyone loved it except my son. He said it was not sweet enough for him. I am thrilled to not only have had six family dinners so far, but that we are having another one next week! That one will have an apple birthday pie for my son. I hope you have enjoyed this post and that it will give you hope that God cares about the little things in the lives of His children, believers, those who love Him and know Him through Jesus Christ. He hears our prayers.
James 5:16 says "The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective." I believe this.
Love, Kathi
